Meet Ms. Miller!
Director of Artistic Programs & Faculty
Amanda Miller joins the Dance Academy of Virginia as the new Director of Artistic Programs and Head of Faculty. She was the Founder and Artistic Director of Miller Rothlein since 2004, and founded the School of Ballet Cambodia in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2020. Since 2024 she served as the Associate Artistic Director of Durham Ballet Theatre, and on faculty at the Raleigh School of Ballet, Carolina Dance Centre, and the Durham School for Ballet and the Performing Arts. Ms Miller danced with the Hartford Ballet, the Pennsylvania Ballet, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and the Metropolitan Opera Company, performing and premiering works by George Balanchine, Jorma Elo, Jodie Gates, and Mark Morris, among many others. She studied the choreographic and improvisational techniques of Alonzo King, William Forsythe, and Siobhan Davies. Her works have been presented nationally and internationally in venues ranging from London, England’s Royal Opera House and NYC’s Whitney Museum of American Art, to the Streets of South Philadelphia, with commissions by The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. Ms Miller has been teaching ballet and contemporary dance internationally for over 30 years and is an American Ballet Theatre (ABT®) National Training Curriculum Certified Teacher through Level 5. Additionally, her training has covered Vaganova, RAD, Bournonville, and Balanchine ballet techniques, as well as Limon and Release techniques, Improvisation, Classical Khmer Dance, and Yoga.
