As parents, you can help by making sure their hair is in a bun (for ballet) or in a neat ponytail for every class, and that they arrive in their dress code attire and proper dance shoes. Any combo class that includes tap, will start in tap shoes, all others will start in ballet shoes. Label all shoes with your dancer’s name. A small dance bag is helpful to keep shoes & water bottles together in the studio.
-
Are parents required to stay in the lobby? We ask that Little Dancer programs dancers that need assistance in using the bathroom stay for the 30-45 minute class. Please remember lobby etiquette!
-
How can I help foster my child’s love of dance?Encourage practicing at home and ask questions. Play music at home & allow dancers to show what they are learning. Questions to ask: what are you learning this week? What costume did you wear? What story are you performing? Show me your favorite step!

-
Why does DAV recommend two classes a week for Level II and three classes a week for Level III-V?Dance is an activity and art form that takes time, dedication, and patience to master. The more time your child spends in class, the faster they will progress. Skills are gained by consistently pushing the limits of your ability, failing, and trying again. The more your dancer does this, the more skill they build.
-
How can I help foster my child’s love of dance?Encourage practicing at home and ask questions. Questions to ask: what are you learning this week? Show me your favorite step! What goals are you working toward?
-
What is the Academy program? The Academy Program is a pre-professional training program in Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Tap that provides students with a path to maximize their potential in technical skills and artistry through a comprehensive weekly schedule and performance/competition opportunities. Classes include- Ballet, Pointe/Pre-Pointe, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Conditioning.

Kinder dancers are invited to an assessment and required to participate in the Academy Summer Program to be evaluated to join the Pre Academy program.
-
Can I pick a dance style I want to pursue in the Academy Program? No, our Academy program is designed for our dancers to receive comprehensive training and they are expected to follow our curriculum.
-
Why is Ballet a fundamental part of the program?Ballet is the foundation for most forms of dance. Ballet is physically intense. However, the values in ballet including alignment, musicality, and flexibility can be used to pursue other forms of dance.
-
Why does DAV require a minimum of one additional contemporary class for Tap Academy students? The more your dancer is exposed to the showmanship and precision that comes along with jazz dancing, the more skill they build to become better performers and technicians. If you are only taking one dance class, once a week, there is a limit on how fast your dancer will gain skill. Taking two or more dance classes per week will increase skill-building opportunities immensely.
